SPRING 15’s GAMES **New for this year!**    in order to participate in rugby games during May and June at the Calgary Rugby Union, our  BBRC U13 and U15 athletes are teaming up with Chestermere Vikings, Airdrie Highlanders and Red Deer Titans.  This partnership between our four clubs allows the development of all our junior programs, encouraging safety, skill development and fun.  Without joining forces with these clubs we may not have an opportunity to play the traditional rugby 15’s format.

SEPTEMBER 7’s SERIES Our training continues through July and August, until the September when the Calgary Rugby Union organizes a series of 7’s Games each Saturday in September.  Stay Tuned for more details about the game schedule.

If your athlete enjoys rugby during the school season and wants to keep playing, joining BBRC is the next step!

Although we work closely together and are complementary programs, school rugby & Banff Bears Rugby Club are different programs.

🎯 What’s the difference?

  • High school rugby runs for a short season in the spring (usually March to early June), and players represent their school teams. It’s a great way to introduce kids to the sport and build school spirit, but the season is only about 8-10 weeks long.

  • Club rugby generally happens after the school season, running from May to September. It’s a longer season with more practices, more games, promoting a deeper understanding, more skill development and higher level of competition.

🎯 Why This Works:

  • Clear Timeframe: high school and club seasons don’t overlap, to avoid overtraining, competitive advantage or academic conflict.

  • Encourages Passion & Progression: club rugby is where players can grow after trying rugby in school, building friendships, fostering a lifelong love for the game

  • Flexibility: With weekend games, and a longer training season, BBRC gives players more opportunities to develop while still pursuing other interests.
